VANCOUVER, BC, July 25, 2011 /Sports PR News/ -- PuckProspect.com member Taylor Vickerman was recently selected in the 6th Round of the Western Hockey League's Bantam Draft (112th Overall).
Being the 7th American player selected in the draft cemented Vickerman's reputation as one of the top 1996-born American players. During the WHL's U.S. Prospects camp held just prior to the draft, Tyler Boldt (WHL Manager of Player Development and Recruitment) tweeted twice about Vickerman - including one tweet naming him as the top forward at the camp.
Regarding his selection by Vancouver, Vickerman said, "They liked how big I was and how I use my size. I was hoping they would pick me. I'm just excited to be affiliated with them. Getting drafted is the experience of a lifetime." The Vancouver Giants website had the following to say about selecting Vickerman: "After impressing all the scouts at the recent US Scouting Combine in Anaheim, California, Vancouver's Director of Player Personnel Jason Ripplinger was surprised he was still around in the 6th round. 'You make a list and just hope some guys are there when your turn comes up, that was the case with Taylor. He works hard, plays with grit, and has a good shot.'" At 6'0" and 175-pounds, Vickerman is not only blessed with size but also an abundance of skill that saw him rack up 103 points in 62 games against some of the top U.S. and Canadian teams during the 2010-2011 season. Vickerman will be participating in the prestigious USA Hockey Select-15 Camp in Rochester, NY from July 15-21, 2011 along with the top 15-year-old players in the United States.
