High School Athletes Train and Volunteer in Kenya and Peru this Summer with Strive Trips

Strive Trips, which organizes international service trips for high school student athletes, has expanded its destinations to offer trips to a high altitude training facility in Peru's Sacred Valley in addition to its location in Iten, Kenya.

NEW YORK, NY, February 19, 2011 /Sports PR News/ -- This summer, high school student athletes from around the country can join Strive to travel to Pisac, Peru or Iten, Kenya for 3 weeks of travel, training, and service. Strive finds athletic training facilities in fascinating international locations where high school student athletes can stay and train with experienced coaches. All locations are at altitude (6000 - 8000 ft), near gravel or dirt 'runner friendly' paths, and have gyms and training sized swimming pools onsite along with other athletic resources. All Strive students begin each day with a structured run, swim, or work out, before walking to a local primary school to complete organized community service projects, which may include tutoring, games, construction, or facilities maintenance. A second workout occurs again in the afternoon. In addition, students enjoy group excursions to local sights and nearby towns as well as incredible safaris in Kenya, to search for the 'big 5' and witness the Wildebeest migration through the Masai Mara, or a hike/run of the Inca trail to the spectacular 'lost city' of Machu Pichu in Peru.

These 3 week programs open up a whole new world for dedicated high school student athletes who in the past have had to sacrifice daily training in order to join international service trips. As Eddie Owens, an All American runner and 8th place finisher at the 2010 Foot Locker Cross Country national championships affirmed, "My Strive trip to Iten was an amazing opportunity to train amongst the best athletes in the world and provided the base I needed for a successful season. The community service was also an extraordinary cultural experience and I formed a close connection with the young students at the school." All programs are lead by experienced coaches and have an adult:student ratio of no larger than 1:6.

Interested student athletes from around the country are already sending in their applications for the limited spaces in these programs, which take place in July and August, 2011. Again this summer, with Strive Trips' service travel for student athletes programs, like-minded teens will enjoy incredible international experiences while training and giving back.
