The National Basketball Shooters Association (NBSA) is expanding it's scope and it's new purpose and mission have broadened to include all kinds of shooting. However, the shot still needing the most attention and need for improvement remains the free throw.

NBSA's mission statement will reflect this change.

The NBSA was established in November, 2009, by a group of free throw masters and world record holders with the mission to improve free throw shooting at all levels of competition. Additionally, it also includes instruction and competition in other forms of shooting.

The NBSA will accomplish its mission by:
*Collaborating with free throw and other shooting experts around the world to organize, develop, and provide the best shooting instruction possible via expert articles, books, videos, clinics, and practice programs for individuals and teams;
*Making free throw shooting fun and competitive via individual and team competitions and ranking systems, while also encouraging competition in other shooting events;
*Publishing research, news, and stats that validate the importance of free throws in winning basketball games.

The NBSA understands that, regrettably, players and coaches overall have not embraced the fact that approximately 25% of points scored in a game come from the free throw line and that many games are lost, due to poor performance from the line. The need for correct teaching and practicing is apparent, as national free throw percentages remain pretty stagnant - high school in the low 60's%, colleges in the high 60's% and pros in the low-mid 70's%.

From their beginning, the founding members of NBSA recognized these statistics and were eager to bring about universal recognition of these facts and to effect a change in players' and coaches' attitudes about training and teaching.

NBSA feels that all shooting is important and our goal is to help improve in all areas of shooting. It has been pretty widely circulated that free throws aren't "sexy", in the way that slam-dunks and 3-pointers are "sexy". Because of this missing "sexy" ingredient, NBSA will now include shooting events like '3-point shooting', 'hot-shot' contests or some abbreviated 'around-the-world', combination of shots, in order to attract more participants to tournaments and to the organization's membership roster.

Here are some of the changes being put into place at the updated NBSA website:
*New URL: http://www.NBSAShooters.com
(old link-NBSAFreeThrows.org)
*Membership: FREE to anyone, anywhere in the world. Go Here To Join NBSA: http://www.nbsashooters.com/user/register
*Expanded listings of shooting tournaments around the world, as they become available.
*Expanded listings of shooting results.
*More teaching articles and human interest stories.
*Creation of an online store offering shooting aids and member basketball products for sale (instructional books/DVDs).
*Affiliations with other organization for the betterment of basketball fundamentals.

Additionally, NBSA anticipates being able to create a shooting analysis lab with expert shooting teachers critiquing player sent video shots; to align with existing tournaments, with special emphasis given to coordinating with masters (senior age groups) events; and to the creation of a National Shooting Tournament.
